Steps on how to be a stay at home mom.

1.Plan

The first step to be a stay at home mom is to plan for it. A lot of women fall into this role by the force of circumstance.

This means it was not what they planned but the found themselves doing it because there was no other way out.

For example, if you had a baby and that baby turned out to be a special needs baby, you automatically have to stay at home to care for your baby because no one will give the care they require the way you want it.

For some, it could be that by having a baby, the cost of child care has outstripped what you earned from working outside the home.

This meant that it did not make sense to work anymore because you are basically earning to pay the childminder.

There are so many reasons for which you could become a stay at home mom, so if you find that your reason allows you to plan ahead, you are lucky.

Start making those plans now, it will save you a lot of stress down the road.

Planning your stay at home mom life before you set out will help you deal with the mindsets that will stop you from becoming successful.

It will also help you to map out a plan of action for what you want to do next.

Yes to be a stay at home mom requires a strategy or else you will suck at it.

2.Assess Your Financial Status

When you decide to be a stay at home mom, people imagine it is cheaper, I mean you don’t have to commute again.

You don’t have to buy work clothes and you also do not have to spend money to buy lunch at work.

It may look cheaper but it cost more to you financially because you cannot bring in a paycheck again.

That means that the total money entering your home per month has reduced.

This could mean that you cannot afford some niceties anymore.

See the pedicure and manicure you always loved, it’s about to go out the window.

So you need to assess yourself financially to see if you have thought about the cost of your decision or if you can afford it.

Ways to deal with it

👍Save money from your workplace before you resign

👍Start a home business and build it up to replace your working income.

👍Learn how to live on one income by finding out cheap ways to spend less.

These ideas are all good, but personalities differ when it comes to money.

If you asked me what I will do, I will combine options 1 and 2 together.

When I wanted to become a stay at home mom, I did not have the luxury to plan it all out as I have written above.

But one thing I was sure of was I wasn’t about to live on one income so I started my blog as a home business.

This blog replaced my outside working income last year.

So take a good look at the choice above and make a decision.

3. What is my Job?

You remember how you always felt rushed because you had to go to work early and you yearned for the days you will wake up and take the days as it goes.

If you are thinking about how to be a stay at home mom and that is what you believe will happen, scratch that it will not happen.

Now that I stay home with the kids, I feel even more rushed. I have to get them out to school before 8 am so I can come and work on my Blog.

I have deadlines set my clients which I have to meet and I know my best working time is when they are in school.

Because I can concentrate to crank out posts without them asking me for help with something.

So my working time is very precious to me.

Before I got to the place where I knew what to do each day, I tried doing everything at once.

Of course, it did not work out, I had to select what gets done each day, thus making my life easier.

My shopping day is Monday and it’s for the week. I don’t want to waste time running to the shop when I should be working.

The problem of how to schedule your time will be your first issue to tackle when you start staying home.

You could confuse the time you have as a time you can use to do anything you want but it will not be so.

When I started working at home and staying home, I could not balance the two.

Its either I am overworking and ignoring the kids or I am attending to the kids and forgetting the blog.

It took me a while before I could figure a way to balance the 2.

In this post, I share how to schedule your time as a stay at home mom.

3.How to run your home business

If you chose the option of running a business from home as your primary means of replacing your income.

You will need to know how to run your business from home. If you have never started a home business before.

This could be a tough learning curve as you will have to come up with your business idea, plan and marketing tactics.

You will also discover that running a home business is not really walk in the park.

To help you overcome these difficulties, you need a planner for your home business that will help you to plan your business from start to finish.

With the home business planner, you can seat at home and hash out your business plan in 2 hours.

This will enable you to begin to execute it right away without trying to wing without a plan.

4. You need a daily to-do list

When you worked outside your home you had a boss to report to.

You had your daily schedule all planned out to the last. You knew what deadlines to meet or else your job is on the line.

When you become a stay at home mom, apply the same principle to your home and business.

Don’t think you don’t have a boss, you do and it is yourself.

If you do not meet your deadlines, your business will die and you will be out of job.

I know this sounds funny but it is the truth.

As a stay at home mom with a business, I worry when my business does not bring in money.

Because If I am doing business and I am not able to pay my bills, I am just playing around.

My business is my employer and I am the boss so I get fired if it dies.

Your daily to-do list should be a combination of your home business and your house duties.

For example, on the day I want to do laundry. In goes the laundry into the machine while I go write a post or do other things.

The daily to-do list is to keep me in check and make sure that my home and business goals are accomplished.

When they are accomplished, I can tick them off as my achievements and that to-do list in my business builds into my strategic plan for the business for the year.

For example last year, I signed up a new freelance writing client which required that I had to work for 3 months before getting paid.

It was difficult to do because I have other things coming up, my course that needed to be launched had not been completed.

But I took the time to design my plan to ensure that I kept that client happy

My course launched in January and I was also able to gain a consistent paying client for my freelance writing gigs.

This year I am reaping the fruits of that endeavor as I get paid monthly.

If you want to know how I accomplish all this, grab my stay at home mom planner.

5.Learn new skills

The worst thing you could do to yourself as a stay at home mom is to allow yourself to become outdated. If you do, you will find it difficult to evolve.

Stay at home moms of those days stayed home, lived on one income, did crafts and generally took care of their home without really improving themselves.

This meant that if they ever wanted to go back to the workforce, they have no skills to use.

The generation we are in right now does not allow it because there are so many ways you could improve yourself.

You can take courses and learn new skills that you will, in turn, monetize to help you replace your income.

When I started this blog, it was a new learning experience for me.

I was an HR and Training specialist. I knew nothing about blogging.

Starting a blog and learning to run it as a business helped me to acquire and still acquiring new skills which I am selling to make money.

For instance In my quest to learn how to make printables products I learned an easy way to make mine which I have converted into a course.

You can go here to learn how to start a printables business

This course has launched this year and is doing well.

If I allowed myself to be stuck in my role as HR director which I could not use at home since I was not employing anyone I will still be home twiddling my thumbs.
